The Cross Island Trail traverses Kent Island, the largest of the Chesapeake Bay islands.
This lovely expanse is a gem on the Cross Island Trail.Before reaching the marina in Kent Narrows, you must head uphill to cross over the causeway on the parallel US 50, where there is an extremely wide shoulder. Bucolic grassy side paths abound. Cross the Narrows on a bridge and turn left onto SR 835/Kent Narrows Road.
Well used on nice weekends.
The Cross Island Trail starts in the Terrapin Nature Area (located directly across the bay from Sandy Point Beach) and runs all the way to Kent Narrows.
The Cross Island trail is a linear park offering an avenue of safe non-vehicular transportation for the citizens of Queen Anne's County and their guests. They must have spend several million to add this extension. For a long run, there are a number of pit stop opportunities along the trail as well. We started at the Holiday Inn and rode our bikes to this park. But any day you get 12 miles of mostly beautiful terrain (woods, marshes and bay) The trail is a beautiful experience, very peaceful, my Godson and I road it and loved it, the only part that got confusing was by the park, the trail cuts to the right onto a gravel path and is not well marked. 8. You can get to this park via the Cross Island Trail. One of my favorite areas to ride. Terrapin Park has some dirt trails for the mountain bike riders. The route begins at Medvejie Hatchery, accessible by boat or by hiking from Herring Cove on the 3.5-mile (5.6 km) private road to Medvejie Hatchery. When you get to the end of this trail, you be at the west side of the main loop trail. While running, I passed two bucks on two separate occasions. You can even go out along the beach for a short section. The trail is relatively flat and mostly shaded. Towards the Kent Narrows trailhead, the trail brings you though a dense pine tree forest that fills the air with the fresh sent of pine. Here, the trail becomes a series of sidewalks and access points to the waterfront and its restaurants and boat slips. Each trail is about five miles long..Adequate parking at main trailhead. It's an impressively signed, well-maintained and charming trail with some truly exceptional views.Begin at Terrapin Nature Park, a parcel of protected land for birds and native plant life. No Parking after dusk 4:30 no specified times just the term dusk. Great for bikes.This is a relatively flat and well-maintained paved trail that is suitable for all ages. At the Kent Narrows the trail facilitates travel to points on the Watermen's Way Heritage Trail which features scenic and historic points on and around the eastern end of the Cross Island Trail. They do go along water, and get very sandy so bikes are not ideal here. Towards the Terrapin Park side of the trailhead, the trail brings you through Love Point Park where there are restrooms and water stations. Stopped at Red Eye’s Dock Bar for waterfront outdoor lunch- weekend live music - first time eating at a restaurant since COVID-19 & seating distance made us feel comfortable.The best trail I have actually gone one its not to long or short it’s perfectHave not ridden the Cross Island Trail in a couple of weeks, but drove by it on the way back home from Delaware today. To reach Kent Narrows, take US 50 east from Annapolis. It’s flat, mostly shaded and is usually not very busy. The trails through the park are nice too.Please be aware that you can no longer go over the old Kent Narrows Bridge to complete the trail and go to the restaurants on the other side of the bridge. There is a museum at the Kent Narrows end as well as another NEW park, Ferry Point Park, which just recently opened.
The park has various points of interest. It does not provide a very nice natural getaway but provides glimpses of what the island used to be before people startedMy wife and I enjoyed biking both trails. Started from Terrapin Nature Park and caught the Cross Island Trail and took it all the way over to Kent Narrows. Parking is available in Terrapin Park at this end of the trailhead, and at Kent Narrows Center towards the Kent Narrows trailhead. It has been a migratory stop over for many birds each spring & fall.
The extension is washed out sand on the bit that meets the bay shore, but can be walked. Has some beautiful wooded sections. The trail wanders through farmlands, meadows and woods accented with ornamental trees. There is ample parking and portable toilets are at the trailhead. Recommended! My family and I have been riding this trail for many years and make it a point each season to pick up the fallen pine cones to make homemade Christmas decorations and bird feeders. However, the Kent Narrows end with its various spurs, marinas and the Discovery Center is very enjoyable and makes the trail worth a visit.
The Nature Center Trails are crushed stone, oyster shell and some sand. Follow SR 8 to the Chesapeake Bay Business Park and turn left. People are very courteous. It connects the Kent Narrows in the east with the Terrapin Nature Area. Amazingly, the parking lot at the west entrance to the trail is permit only! Passing through impressive natural scenery, the three- to four-hour hike from the north to south coasts via the 413m Te Rua Manga (Needle) is Rarotonga's most popular walk. Trail recently black topped in good condition.
