CD3 is most definitely the latter and to an almost laughable degree.
The obvious loser of the week, and the worst reviewed game, is Crackdown 3 on Xbox One. Almost every one of which you must fight your way up a skyscraper to confront. To play the game’s campaign online with a friend, one player will have to host the game and invite the other. Really that’s all I’ve ever wanted out of life. It’s not going to do well, considering it looks like the Dollar General version of The Last of Us to the blind eye. Bioshock, Portal, The Orange Box, Mass Effect, Assassin’s Creed and Halo 3! But on the other hand I can objectively recognize that it represents something negative in the industry and is not at all up to par with where console exclusives should be, and for Microsoft, really NEED to be.Here at BFG we don’t give review scores numerically because after a while scores will always become inconsistent. Crackdown 3: An Exclusive Flop. In CD3, not so much.So I’m left with a bit of a conundrum, at the end of the day CD3 was basically exactly what I expected and I enjoyed it quite a lot.
Who can hate leaping 50 feet in the air, hitting a mech in the face with a black hole grenade and then ground pounding a crowd of screaming geneticists into juice pulp on the way down? Napalm_Frank Microsoft’s Crackdown 3 is finally launching for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC this … There are a few shades of Agency naughtiness here and there but mostly they’re just played entirely straight. What I wasn’t expecting was a hard hitting and well written story, with thought provoking characters with complex motivations that make me have to examine myself emotionally. Also in the original game you could just attack him straight away if you wanted, sure you probably wouldn’t survive or even make most of the jumps in the tower, but you could have a go. Now the original game wasn’t exactly a trend setter, but it at least had variety in its gangs and the reported personalities of its gang leaders.In CD3 you’re only fighting one organisation, which has very small variations and virtually no character to speak of as it throws out samey boss after samey boss. Crackdown 3 has definitely been a bit of a mess and by all accounts the campaign was done a long time ago and perhaps should have launched by itself. I mean sure, there’s a little jetpack strafing now, and you can front-roll, but that’s really it. Maybe the last 12 years of franchise silence have been in-universe years where the Agency’s PR team has been working around the clock to make them seem like the heroes they’ve been badly pretending to be all along.It’s also very repetitive as sequels go. The host could continue progress in an already established world, or start from scratch with the addition of another player.Finally, the host can send an invite to an Xbox Live friend from a list before starting the game. God, 2007 was a great year for gaming wasn’t it? Yeah, basically that but five times in a row. The hosting player will have to select “Co-op Campaign” from the main menu.From there, the hosting player will have to choose his or her agent. It’s pretty hard to boil down a complex and potentially emotion effected opinion with a flat number; especially across genres. Crackdown 3 has finally dropped today along with a bunch of reviews from gaming critics.
It can be one which already has progress from a previous campaign, or a new agent that is a complete blank slate.Then the hosting player must choose the game world.
Even the director is uncharacteristically un-sinister, mostly reserving his (rather fun) dialogue to quips about how exactly you’re killing people at the moment. You remember that awesome fight in the first game when you had to fight your way up that skyscraper to confront the last boss? And when you’re looking at a franchise that’s trying to re-energize fans for its comeback tour (one that people were comfortable with the idea wasn’t coming at all) that really isn’t good enough.It’s also a little unfortunate that CD3 seems to have more or less dropped the (admittedly underutilized) side-plot of its forebears I.E, the Agency is actually evil and trying to turn the world into a fascist police state. You’d think someone so down with current events and threats to the freedom of the common man would know that the Agency’s hands are hardly clean, but hey ho. The build suffered from a number of bugs, which worried many … People don’t know that Days Gone exists outside of gaming forums. A bad sequel will just wallow in the original, using references to things people liked about it to try and trick its audience into liking what is essentially a less original rip off with a new coat of paint. Because it’s certainly not the sort of game that would have been worth making a big song and dance about and it wouldn’t surprise me if the company’s change in focus had just come a little too late in CD3’s development cycle to really matter. If I’m completely honest, what I was expecting out of CD3 was a scaled up version of the original game, with better multiplayer support and Terry Crews, and that’s basically what I got.Now that’s not to say the game doesn’t have problems, because it does. 1 year ago MS is promoting the s*** out of it.
