The summit of Hawksbill Mountain can be reached by a short hike from a trailhead located at the Upper Hawksbill parking area, just off of Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. Have to walk through brush to get to some rocks for view, but great trail.Excellent trail; in good condition ... definitely very well traveled and lots of people but no problem keeping to yourself.

But that one is in a Shenandoah National Park and has a $20 fee to visit! It’s a short hike, but a fantastic one, ending with view-packed panoramas from the mountain’s rugged, sharp rock outcrops that resemble a hawk’s bill in their high-altitude angularity. But man is it worth it! Not much signage once you start the ascent. This trail is best visited MayYou start with a short downhill section, but then it’s a gradual uphill trek for the entire hike. Make sure to visit both overlooks at the top and the second one is even better than the first and I almost skipped it thinking it would be more of the same. I would label the lower part of this moderate, but the upper part is definitely strenuous and you'll get a workout, but the views make it all worth it.Great trail of short distance and moderate difficulty.
The trail is pretty heavily used but not … From here, the summit trail gets progressively rockier and, after 1/4 mile, arrives at the ridge. Get there early on the weekend as parking can be tricky late morning/afternoon. *The mileage seems wrong to me- we were expecting 1.8 mi round trip, but it was 2.7 mi. Our 9, 7, and 5 year olds made it although I wouldn’t recommend it for young kids who aren’t used to hiking.What a beautiful hike! we did go the wrong way at the second "rock arrow" - go left every time you see a pile of rocks and you'll get there. At the summit is a nice day shelter as well as a directional compass thing to point out landmarks in the distance. Highly recommend this trail!Short trail for amazing views!
