Some have narrow wood bridges and some are fast, steep descents and climbs. The view of the lake is great from the railroad bridge. The problem we encountered was the almost total lack of trail markings. Very easy to get turned around. There are several loops in the trial system.

Tables, pit latrines and a dump station are provided. A valid Ohio fishing and/or hunting license is required. On our way back through the trail I ended up collecting a handful of pine cones to make bird feeders with.Today probably wasn't the best day to attempt this hike, but since I just became a pro member, I really wanted to try this app out for myself. Took our 5 year old and it was easy for her. The park, named for the 8th U.S. President, Martin Van Buren, was opened to the public in 1950. The Van Buren State Park region was originally inhabited by the Shawnee Indians. Our target fish to catch was Bullhead Catfish, but we didn't end up catching any.

The woodlands are a small but valued refuge in the rich agricultural land of northwestern Ohio. In some areas of the trail (white) it was not clear and had to cut through the brush, but it was fun and gave the hike a little more adventure.

The population was 313 at the 2000 census. Mud an issue up to 10 days after rain. Van Buren State Park lies in the rich agricultural plains of northwest Ohio. Indian artifacts and relics can still be found on what used to be Indian Island, located in the northwest section of the lake. I plan to return next week for some solo mountain bike riding.The MTB trials at Van Buren State Park I would rate as easy to moderate. The more difficult jumps, bridges and log climbs offer bypass loops. The till plains are the result of the deposition and smoothing action of the glaciers. Lots of fun. We enjoyed it and look forward to returning in the Spring or Summer months.I've run this trail 100 times and I love it. Good fishing is available at Van Buren Lake. Would take my dog next time.Went fishing with my dad here earlier today. The trails were very muddy and in some places the trail markings were rather hidden. The preserve is one of the largest interior wetlands in the till plains of western Ohio. Not only does lack of directional arrows make it hard to follow, but the trail runs near and sometimes overlapping other trails. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
So, if 100% trail accuracy is your thing I wouldn't advise this trail, many spots leave it to your interpretation of where you should go next.A nice trail along the lake and into the woods. I was surprised to see how many trails there were and the fact that there is a path for everyone from horse back riding to walking! It was a beautiful hike. There were a few places that weren't well marked, but overall, a great trail!I really enjoy this trail. Fairly easy terrain, with a few challenges.

Deer, rabbit, raccoon, coyote and a couple that were definitely none of the above.

Now the real fun begins, because the way the trail is marked it is kinda hard to follow accurately. Three picnic areas are situated in scenic locations throughout the park. Van Buren offers a campground with 40 non-electric sites. However, we did end up catching a few Common Carp and I caught a pretty nice sized Channel Catfish, my first of the year. Several hiking trails are provided on the south side of the lake. The maps provided are virtually useless as they don't show parking lots or shelter houses. The Van Buren State Park region was originally inhabited by the Shawnee Indians. It's only downside is that in the spring the horses can muck it up pretty good and make it a challenge to run.There are a million different paths you can take, trails are pretty well marked, and options to make it more or less difficult. The park isn't so large that anyone would be in real danger of becoming dangerously lost, but some trail markers would be nice.The trails were fun. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.Van Buren State Park offers several miles of multi-use trials. Beneath the almost continuous cover of glacial deposits lies sedimentary bedrock which, in this region, is mostly limestone with a little shale.

However, that aside this was an excellent trail through the woods. It's easy with some challenges for beginners. Located on the shores of Kelleys Island. Then you continue from there past the restrooms where another sign is and a short trail to the right that leads to a gravel road/trail. We took the path less traveled and followed the blue trail.
