It's indoor. For anyone with a serious phobia, avoid this station all together (is that even possible?) My friend and I wandered around with our bikes for 10 minutes looking for the elevator that all the signs insisted we use. Finally, we just chose to violate Metro's sacred laws and carry the bikes down the escalator, much to the consternation of those wishing to walk on the left side. I watch so closely where I'm going because I have the eerie feeling that 1 small misstep can send me to a tragic death. Metrorail service is available from Washington's National Airport and from Union Station (railway). They have a good bust station areas there as well . Quality starts with the use of only the finest quality products and materials and highly trained and skilled professional labor. It's a popular stop but somehow it is often closed for smoke in the tunnels and/or one of the escalators being broken causing passengers to literally be stuck in the tunnels. When I had a question or wanted to confirm that we were on the correct side of the train - there were also helpful employees there who guided us and made it that much more easy. My biggest gripe is the ridiculously long escalator--which is often broken. They need to get all the repairs done in order to stop the customers from losing faith in them or to stop riding for a while in lack of giving service Plus they need to add better security for that area in day and night times . Employees are super helpful. Go to Medical Center instead and save yourself the trouble!Best public transportation I've ever taken. The Escalator Right exit, takes one through an advertising tunnel to the East side of Wisconsin Ave and East West Highway.
